Information regarding Mormon island in El Dorado Hills

Mormon Island is located between Green Valley Road and the neighborhood of Crown Valley. The original Mormon Island was an 1848 settlement named for its Mormon immigrant settlers who had found gold there. At one point, the population was 2,500, but by 1856 it was ruined by fire and then by water. Fifty years ago, the community was sunk underwater by the creation of the Folsom Dam.

Mormon Island is located in the Rescue Union School District and the children attend Lakeview Elementary School, Marina Middle School and Oak Ridge High School.
